Off-the-shelf hardware rarely fits cleanly across every vehicle type in a fleet. Mounting points differ, wiring runs vary, and what works on one bus configuration may need meaningful adaptation on another. When that adaptation gets figured out in the field during the install, it costs time, creates inconsistency, and puts pressure on a schedule that usually doesn’t have room for it.
QMI designs and fabricates custom components in-house — mounting solutions, protective enclosures, integration harnesses, and pre-configured wiring kits built to the specific requirements of the deployment. The work happens before vehicles hit the bay, not during the install.
Keeping fabrication in-house means we control the timeline. There’s no external vendor to wait on, no design adjustments getting discovered mid-project, and no disconnect between what was engineered and what the field team is actually working with.
After 20 years of installs, every component we build is built with serviceability in mind rather than just fit at installation. Mounting approaches that make future maintenance harder, wiring configurations that are difficult to troubleshoot, enclosures that don’t hold up under real operating conditions. These are the things that drive callbacks and increase lifecycle cost.
When QMI is handling both fabrication and installation, those decisions get made by the same team. What gets built reflects what actually works in the field.
